I really enjoyed reading Very Short Stories in WIRED. It is amazing the power of six well thought out and organized words. Hemingway once wrote, apparently on a bet that he could not write a story containing only six words, the following story. "For sale: baby shoes, never worn."
WIRED challenged several well known authors and writers to come up with their own six word stories. Here are some of my favorites:
- We kissed. She melted. Mop Please!
- It's behind you! Hurry before it
- Lie detector eyeglasses perfected: Civilization collapses.
- Tick tock tick tock tick tick
- They baby's blood type? Human mostly.
- Computer did we bring batteries? Computer?
Now here are some of my own:
- Is there anyone who wasn't picked?
- Upon the white casket countless names.
- Alone baby. Childless couple. Adoption. Bliss.
- Sleeping pond. Standing dad. Jumping son.
- Black and white. Tears, smiles, rings.
- Now watch this! ... are you OK?
- Waiting meal; phone call. Uneaten meal.
- Withered hand holding withered hand. Goodbye.
- Daughter gets permit. Dad holds on.
- A captive audience. Fright. Lost chance.
OK, if I can do this, so can you. Give it a shot. I would love to read some of your own six word stories.
