Back in the glorious days of leading student ministry I had my share of long van rides. Mission trips, retreats, and camps all provided some "bonding" time in a 15 passenger van with 17 other people.
On one occasion, the students in the van I was driving, started talking about love and eventually produced the following:
LOVE IS LIKE...
- A one way street. There is only one way to have it.
- A winning lottery ticket. You are lucky to have it.
- A rental car. It's used, abused and returned.
- A Cigar. It throws up a lot of smoke, then makes you puke.
- Music. It sounds good, but it is hard to compose.
- A boomerang. Even when you throw it away, it comes back to you.
- A yawn. It is contagious.
- A lightning bolt. You can only see it if you look in the right places.
- A line. There are a lot of people in it, but only one comes first.
- Church. It is holy and sacred.
- A Noise. You don't know what it is.
- A red, red rose. It blooms in fullness in the spring, then shrivels and dies in the winter.
- A bridge. It brings two separate things together.
- A bowling ball. If you throw it right, you just might score.
- A car wash. It makes your true colors show.
- McDonald's. Over 6 billion served.
- A blanket. You can get all wrapped up in it.
- A yellow light. When some people see it, they floor it. While their cautious counterparts will slam on the brakes.
- A postal worker. Volatile and dangerous.
- A Mustang. It is beautiful and it can take you places you have never been.
- A Porsche. It is high maintenance.
- Weightlifting. It can make you stronger with a little work.
- Children. Energetic and frustrating.
- Communication. The key to everything.
- Headlights. It illuminates some of the darkness, but you still do not know too much of what lies ahead.
- Broken glass. It can hurt you and still be beautiful.
- A flight of stairs. You have to work at it, but it will take you to a whole new level.
- Trouble. When you are in it, it's written all over your face.
- Toothpaste. When used correctly, it makes you want to smile.
- An electric outlet. It will give you quite a shock.
- A nail in the wall. It pierces the soul, but it can hold up good things.
- A word search. You never know where you will find the answer.
- A bus. If you are patient, it will eventually come along.
- A window. If it is clear you can see beautiful things through it.
- A Jolly Rancher. Short and sweet.
- A window in a high rise. It is beautiful to look through, but if you go through it, you will experience tremendous pain.
- A dictionary. It has many definitions.
- A credit card. It can cost you more later for what you buy now.
- Wall paper. It is always there but hardly ever noticed.
- A short nap. It leaves you wanting more.
- A telephone call. It ends when you say goodbye.
- Boiling water. It is hot and steamy to begin with then it becomes cold and calm.
- A door. It presents the possibility of new opportunities, but it is closed most of the time.
- A tire. It goes round and round, then goes flat.
- A vacuum cleaner. It sucks!
- A gas guage. When it is empty, it usually lies.
- A rose bush. If you jump in too quickly you will get hurt.
- Life. To be truly happy, God must be the center of it.
- A bird. It needs to fly.
- Rob's driving. It is dangerous, but fun.
Most of all remember this.
I miss those mission trips!
