Fernando Alonso will be paid $51.3 million dollars a year to return as driver for team Renault in Formula 1 racing. As the number one driver for Renault he won the championship in 2005 and 2006. Good thing he is getting the extra .3 million. He is already 26, so I would hate to see him not make all he can before he becomes too old to drive!
I was at game four of the World Series. It was amazing! Even though the Rockies lost, it was one of my top sports moments ever. I tried several ways to get tickets, but just about when all hope seemed gone, a ticket arrived. Two bonuses were that I "only" had to pay face value, and my friend Dave had the ticket right next to me. We attended the first ever Rockies game together, went to Spring Training together, so it seemed appropriate that we would take in the Series together. The pictures capture some of the magic and you will notice that both Dave and I went to the Super Rally Cap.
The Rockies amazing run continues. Last night, when Torrealba hit his sixth inning three-run homer, I jumped up and down and I'm pretty sure I hurt my Achilles tendon. It was worth it! I will give it a good test today on a long run.
ONE WIN FROM THE WORLD SERIES! At no time during the season did I anticipate writing those words in reference to the Rockies.
What a great way to start the series. Only three wins away from making the World Series.
Jeff Francis has has two excellent starts in the playoffs. He is not overpowering, but he really knows how to pitch. He reminds a bit of Tom Glavine.
All of the Rockies hits were singles and they still scored five runs on one of the top three pitchers in the National League.
I now officially take back all of my mid-season criticism of Brad Hawpe.
If I adopt a son, I may name him Kaz.
The Arizona fans are some of the worst in all of sports. No, not just for throwing trash on the field. THEY DID NOT EVEN SELL OUT THE GAME!! Plus from reports I read, many fans who did have tickets came disguised a empty seats, and the PA guy had to continually remind the fans to cheer and get excited. What a joke!
It seems like every decision made by Hurdle works right now. Activating and playing Tavares proved to be the right move.
Some concerns about tonight's game. The Rocks are a much better team against right handers, and tonight they face the southpaw, Davis.
Grilled up some dogs and bratwurst last night. Never tasted better!
The odds just became longer for the Rockies to make it to the World Series. The Sports Illustrated Jinx is tough to overcome, but not impossible. In fact according to this report from a few years ago it only works 37.2% of the time.
The truth is that I have been putting coats of polyurethane down on my daughters bathroom floor, so I may be feeling good from the fumes. However...
Saturday - My "sports high" started last Saturday with the C.U. victory over Oklahoma. This was an unexpected and incredible win. I was excited and jumping around like a little kid. Wow! Carol Ann's take on me watching the game.
Sunday - Rockies win! Padres lose! Bring on the Wild Card Playoff Monday! Also, Johnson and Gordon do well in the Kansas race. Stewart crashes, life is good! Broncos lose to the Colts, but that is no surprise.
Monday - Reason number 7,612,541 that I have the best wife in the whole wide world! Carol Ann and I are away for few days of vacation. What kind of husband would I be to interrupt our getaway with baseball watching. It was kind of killing me inside, but I decided to forgo the game and delight in time with my wife. But my dear, wonderful, incredible, sweet goddess of a woman wife asks of her own volition, "what time is the game tonight?" I say, "5:37 PM". She says, "why don't you watch the game and I will watch a movie." I slightly pause for effect and the say OK!!!!!! I love you" and give her a big kiss! I watch one of the most thrilling games I have ever seen. Rockies win! Wife is Good! Life is Good!
Tuesday - For some unexplained reason I had the urge to go shopping with Carol Ann and buy her a new outfit. Not sure where this uncommon urge came from... Hmmm.
Wednesday - Rockies win! Avalanche win! Still on vacation and I watch the game from home with Chipotle and Ice Cream!
Thursday - Rockies win! I watch the game with my daughter Robbin and she brings Chipotle for lunch. Bummin a bit because the Yankees lose get killed, but still pretty high as I write this.
Mike Gundy is a former quarterback and now head football coach at Oklahoma State University. Following his teams victory Saturday, he went on a huge rant at the post game press conference. For his actions he is being taken to task by most people in the media. Personally, I appreciate him standing up for his player who apparently is a good kid. Too often coaches make excuses for players who are stars when they get in trouble with the law or fail to go to class. It is nice to see a coach take up for a student athlete who has struggled on the field and been misrepresented by the local media. Gundy's explosion is below. The article that set him off.
Dario Franchitti won this Indianapolis 500 this year and he has been the best driver on the Indy car circuit. However, the last two weeks have been really bad for him because of the incredible wrecks, but really good because he walked away from both.
It is unusual for a driver to experience what Franchitti has even once in their life, let alone twice in back to back races. Yikes! Franchitti is the classiest racer that exists today. And if you don't follow racing, I will point out that he is married to one Ashley Judd.
Here is the crash at Michigan followed by the one at Kentucky (flip is shown about 1 minute in to video):
